Potash for Life Story in Films

Watching short films online is increasingly popular and very influential. We are delighted that farmers and their advisors in India and elsewhere in the world now have the Potash for Life story at their fingertips in the first of our new potash films on our channel on YouTube.

Some people want to get the gist of a story in seconds. That’s why we have one film, Potash for Life India at a glance, that in just eighty seconds shows us at work. The sound track is the beautiful singing of Potash for Life agronomist Himanshu Hariharno who works in the state of Chhattisgarh. His song was recorded at the edge of one of the forty Demonstration Plots he runs to showcase the difference that using potash fertiliser can make to a crop of rice. The recording was just before dusk when the light and the sound were rich and remarkable.

A summary of Potash for Life work

The fuller story of the methods and impact of the Indian Potash Limited-supported initiative across nine states of India can be seen in the film Our Work in India – Potash for Life. We know our work is worthwhile when, as in the film, we hear farmers commenting on how they have observed from our activities – Demonstration Plots and Field Days – that yields increase 10-15% or even by as much as 50% when potash has been applied.

Revealing the power of potash

An important part of our work is to explain why and how potash fertilizer increases yields.

Our film Power of Potash explains the evidence of the effect of this natural plant nutrient on different crops. Potash for Life Project Director Dr Surinder Bansal, agronomists, scientists, farm advisors and farmers explain the power potash has to improve plant growth and health, resistance to drought and pest and disease attack and – very importantly – the quantity and quality of the harvest.

Film as a tool to help farmers with better fertiliser use

This first batch of three films feature a range of important crops. Sugar cane, soybean, rice, brassicas and tomatoes are all mentioned as examples where the power of potash has made a big difference. Not surprisingly the demand in India for potash fertilizer is increasing as more and more farmers want the boost this input can give to their businesses. Fertilizer in film for farmers is a fantastic combination.
